Seniors are Adapting to Technology and Living a Digital Lifestyle

Every day, 10,000 Americans turn 65 years old, and every day, they’re redefining what it means to grow older. At GreatCall, we truly believe that technology is transforming the way Americans age, and have seen its positive impact first-hand. As a company that creates products and services that work together to allow older adults to stay safe, connected and healthy, stories of older adults inspire us every day.

To that end, we recently challenged documentary filmmakers to tell a story to start a conversation about what growing older means in our current culture, and maybe even how technology is impacting that journey. Here is filmmaker Laura L. Bland’s thoughts on her take on this subject.

A Digital Lifestyle for Seniors

“Being a Videographer in one of the highest populations of seniors in the U.S., coupled with my love of technology and filmmaking, provided me the drive to document Stella Mayo’s story. I previously met Stella a few years back during the filming of another production, so I had a good idea who would be a great candidate to provide viewers with both an informative and entertaining approach to how seniors use technology in their everyday living. In preparation for the production, I first meet with Stella to explore her current living arrangements and to get a good visual representation of how she integrated advancements in technology from within her home, vehicle and communication devices. Afterward, Stella compared how technology was for her growing up with today’s changes and just how much easier it is to operate on a daily basis with the technology she feels is most important to her.”
